ABSTRACT

Rectal leiomyosarcomas are rare tumors. In a previous study in the Hospital Juárez de México, found an incidence of 0.7% over a period of 15 years. Immunohistochemistry (CD117, actin and desmin, among others) are very important for differential diagnosis between these tumors and other mesenchymal tumors, especially gastrointestinal stromal tumors. The survival prognosis is poor, worse in patients younger than 50 years and in case of high-grade malignant neoplasm. We report the case of a male patient aged 48 with leiomyosarcoma of the rectum with a high degree of malignancy.
