Predisposing factors for presenting developmental dysplasia of the hip

ABSTRACT

The developmental hip dysplasia is a pathology related with multiple risk factors including genetics and mechanical factors. The incidence rates varies from 0.6 to 1.6 cases per 1,000 births in developed countries. Within risk factors to be considered are mainly female gender, pelvic presentation, primiparous pregnancy, oligohidramnios, macrosomic product, twin pregnancy, as well as the placement of clothing with the hips fully extended and in adduction, especially in communities of northern America, Europe and northern Russia. The purpose of this article is to consider risk factors associated with de developmental hip dysplasia so that medical doctors in training and treating physicians are able to identify patients at risk to thereby give a better treatment.
