ABSTRACT

Background: Rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty allow correcting functional and cosmetic deformities of the nasal structures using different approaches and techniques; the use of grafts and implants are frequent in these surgeries.
Objective: To report the experience in the use of grafts and implants on nasal surgery in the service of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery in the Regional Hospital General Ignacio Zaragoza, ISSSTE.
Material and method: A descriptive and retrospective study was done using the medical records of postoperative patients with rhinoseptoplasty and rhinoplasty from January 2009 to December 2012.
Results: We included 104 patients between 16 and 68 years old. The most used approach was the open one. The most used material graft was the septal cartilage followed by auricular conchal cartilage. The most used implant was Medpor. Columellar strut, Peck graft and Sheen graft were used in the nasal tip. In the nasal dorsum the most used graft was the radix graft. The complications we found were related with migration of the graft, extrusion and infection.
Conclusions: Our experience is consistent with national and international practice, avoiding excessive resections, making good use of surgical planning and streamlined to support grafts and nasal volume.
