ABSTRACT
Introduction: The term odontoma was introduced in 1867 by Broca to describe a benign, slow-growing tumor of odontogenic origin made up of enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp tissue. X-ray analysis reveals a mixed radiolucent and radiopaque image, with clear radiolucent edges with multiple radiopaque areas inside.
Case report: An 8-year-old female patient was treated at the undergraduate Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí’s Faculty of Dentistry. The reason for her consultation was the absence of the permanent left central incisor. Diagnostic aids such as X-rays were used, in which a mixed image with defined edges was observed below the incisal edge of the permanent left upper central incisor and above the apex of the deciduous left central incisor. Therefore, a presumptive diagnosis of compound odontoma was made, proceeding to enucleation of the same.
