Characterization of the total and permanent disability in workers of Sancti Spíritus province during 2000-2004

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The risk factors present in the work environment, both natural and anthropogenic, interacting and can lead to the appearance of temporary or permanent lesions and that may be causing total work disability. Objectives: To characterize the total disability for work in the province of Sancti Spíritus during the period 2000- 2004. Material and method: We conducted a retrospective and descriptive study using statistical information of the provincial commission of medical and occupational experts of Sancti Spíritus. Results: Results of the provincial committee were tabulated and the frequency of the age groups, work experience, major pathologies, occupational categories and agencies of the economy most affected, and calculated the rate of economically active life lost through disability by cause of health. Conclusions: The retirement for health reasons represents a significant portion of total retirement. The highest frequency was in women, the age group most affected from 41 to 55 years. The 11 to 20 and those 26 and older were the leading contributors to retirement, diseases of the osteomioarticular system were the main cause, the category of workers, technicians and service, and the Ministries of Agriculture, Sugar and Public Health were the most affected.
