ABSTRACT

Mesenteric cysts represent a largely unstudied disease which has established a frequency of 1 per 26,794 to 250,000 hospital admissions. Clinical manifestations are nonspecific, but they are frequently remaining asymptomatic for long time. We bring a case of a 40-year-old man with previous diagnosis of mesenteric cyst (7 years) that comes to this hospital for exacerbation of clinical symptoms of identifiable occupying mass and gastrointestinal manifestations. We proceed to making preoperative screening studies and abdominal computed tomography locating a mass in mesogastrium with measures 11.6 x 12.4 cm. It was treated with laparoscopic surgical resection, drainage, dissection and extraction with endobag. The histopathologic diagnosis reveals a simple omental cyst. The patient was discharged after 48 hours without complications. Despite not being an identity that represents a global health problem, given the increase in frequency and case reports in journals is important to standardize the diagnostic strategies and surgical therapy in order to get a better prognosis for the patient.
