ABSTRACT

Introduction:Mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver is a rare tumor that usually presents in the infancy. It´s origin is related with structural alterations of the development of the liver. Case report:We present the case of a mesenchymal hamartoma of the liver in a one year-old child that was referred to our hospital with the presumed diagnosis of hydatid cyst. A right hepatic trisegmentectomy was performed without complications. At six months of follow up the patient has been asymptomatic without evidence of recurrent disease. Conclusions:Hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma is an uncommon benign lesion that occurs predominantly in the right lobe of the liver. Progressive abdominal distension and palpable mass are the most common clinical symptoms. Liver resection whenever feasible is the treatment of the choice.
