ABSTRACT

Brown-Sequard syndrome, occurring frequently in spinal cord injuries, rarely is caused by degenerative processes, such as cervical herniated discs. We present the case of a 51 year old male patient, who presented with the sudden start of a clinical picture of Brown-Sequard syndrome, with right hemiplegia, absence of right proprioception and abolished termoalgesia in left hemibody. He had a cervical spine MRI, which revealed an extruded cervical disc in C3-C4, involving 80% of the spinal canal. We performed resection of C4 body (corporectomy) with placement of tituanium- cervical mesh and an anterior Mosher plate in vertebrae C3-C5, confirming decompression of the spinal canal without clinical improvement in motor and sensitive function.
