ABSTRACT

There are multiple reports of foreign bodies that have served as a mold for the formation of choledocholithiasis, such as parasite eggs, surgical suture, food portions (tomatoes, plums and others). The surgical history is undoubtedly the main etiological factor in the residual choledocholithiasis, nevertheless there are a few reports on stones that form around nonabsorbable suture material, especially in the current era where open cholecystectomy is everyday less common vs. laparoscopic cholecystectomy, so recent reports are in relation to surgical staples. The reason for this is to register the case report of a patient that after 2 years of open cholecystectomy an endoscopic cholangiography was performed and a stone was extracted whose core was suture material, which was used for ligating the cystic duct.
