ABSTRACT

Background: During pregnancy there are frequent changes in the metabolism of carbohydrates and 1 to 3% of all pregnant women have impaired glucose tolerance or develop gestational diabetes mellitus.
Objectives: To evaluate the usefulness of aminophylline to induce lung maturity in pregnant patients with gestational or pre-gestational diabetes as well as analysis of perinatal outcomes.
Material and method: We performed a retrospective review of 1,500 cases of maternal-fetal medicine service of the Regional Hospital Adolfo López Mateos of January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2011, including pregnant patients diagnosed with gestational or pregestational diabetes, who initiated prenatal care later than the beginning of the third trimester of pregnancy, with no previous management for fetal lung maturation.
Results: No statistically significant differences between the different study groups regarding the type of diabetes, age distribution, hypertensive disease associated weights Capurro products and valuation.
Conclusions: Aminophylline is an effective alternative for the prevention of respiratory distress syndrome in patients with preexisting diabetes or gestational properly induce lung maturity, not being necessary to administer more than 2 patterns the same.
