ABSTRACT

Informed consent is an ethical requirement, it respects the human dignity of the patient; in it, the risks and benefits of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures are explained, and the patient authorizes them,. However, there are special problems when, because of the patient’s unability or religious belief; therefore, authorization is not obtained. In Mexico, the greatest legal good to protect is life, above religious belief, in the need of an hemotransfusion, it must be performed. In this paper we analyze the problems mentioned above by providing arguments for sound decision-making and to avoid incurring in professional responsibility.
