ABSTRACT

Sickle cell hemoglobinopathy is usually mild but it may be associated with renal symptoms, especially hematuria.A patient with Sickle cell hemoglobinopathy was attended in the department of Nephrology, from "Julio Arístegui Villamil" Hospital, Cárdenas City. She presented recurrent macroscopic hematuria. We realized studies like ultrasonography, ureteroscopy to evaluate the presence of: urinary tract obstructions, papillary necrosis, renal infarction and renal medullar carcinoma, uncommon diagnosis but really fatal in patients with hematuria and Sickle cell hemoglobinopathy. Our case resolved spontaneously in seven days with bed rest, hydration, and loop diuretics intravenous. A bibliographic review on this important issue was made in daily medical practice.
