Analysis by tomography and magnetic resonance of congenital heart disease using the sequential segmental system

ABSTRACT
Congenital heart diseases have an average prevalence of 8 cases per
1000 live neonates. Diagnosis and treatment of pediatric and adult
patients with congenital heart disease has increased due to advances in
surgical techniques, interventionism, prenatal diagnosis, and monitoring
by cardiologists specialized in care and management. Cardiac tomography
and magnetic resonance are non-invasive imaging methods, with
adequate spatial and temporal resolution, which allow us to evaluate
the intracardiac and extracardiac anatomy. The sequential segmental
system is a rational and orderly attempt at morphological description
of congenital heart malformations, which helps doctors specializing
in cardiac imaging describe the anatomy of patients with congenital
heart disease.
