ABSTRACT

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is the most frequent cause of death of elective surgery, and a frequent complication of hospitalized patients with cardiac, pulmonary and oncology problems. Many of these cases can be easily prevented, reducing their morbidity and mortality. However, all over the world, patients with prophylaxis indication do not receive it. At the same time, therapy with anticoagulants decreases the mortality rate from 30% to 2 to 8 %. However, only around 50% of the patients with pulmonary embolism are diagnosed on time. Key words: Pulmonary thromboembolism, diagnosis, radiology. Palabras clave: Tromboembolia pulmonar, diagnóstico, radiológico.
