Congenital hypothyroidism in infants delivered in a private hospital

ABSTRACT
Between January 2008 to December 2012 study was to determine the frequency of congenital hypothyroidism, through the «sieve» neonatal, and the quantification of thyroid hormones in neonates born in a private hospital. Of the 9,900 children born in the period of study, in 41 was the diagnosis of congenital hypothyroidism: an 18 by neonatal screening and 23 were «thyroid profile» therefore, the frequency of congenital hypothyroidism was estimated at one case in 990 newborn children. Thus, the frequency recorded in this study, apparently high is secondary to their specific characteristics. In addition to the fact that the children were diagnosed as positive with a single quantification of TSH.
