ABSTRACT

This paper deals with the importance of leaders and leadership in humankind, from its beginning to the modern age. Also, three definitions of leadership are discussed because they are considered the most widely used according to our experience in teaching leadership. We emphasize «change» as the most important concept regarding leadership. Also, we present a list of brief biographies of leaders in medicine, from the Hippocratic age to our days, and which mayor change they promoted according to their time. We list leadership subjects that are easily worked with physicians, according to the experience gained on teaching leadership. We emphasize the requirements for developing the leaders in healthcare for XXI century.
