ABSTRACT
Objective: To establish the changes in the H-Reflex latency after an anti-inflammatory blockade in patients with S1 radiculopathy. Material and methods: A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was done in 12 patients of both sexes older than 18 years old candidates to an anti-inflammatory blockade for a S1 radiculopathy. The H-Reflex was performed before and three weeks after the blockade in all patients using an Nicolet Viking Quest electromyograph. The latency of the H reflex was measure and a less than 1 msec side to side difference was used as a normal reference value. All data obtained was analyzed using measures of central tendency and the Student t test. Results: Nine patients completed the study but only 7 patients were used for statistical analysis. One was eliminated for having both legs affected and the other for not evoking the H reflex on the side affected. Before the Blockade, we found a significant statistical side to side difference in the H reflex latency (P less than .05) that was reverted after the blockade (P more than 0.05) meaning the latency got better after the procedure. Conclusion: We found a significant reduction of the H reflex latency in the affected side after an anti-inflammatory blockade in patients with S1 radiculopathy.REFERENCES
