ABSTRACT

Introduction: Hospital Angeles León created a Publication Committee in order to evaluate the scientific publications of its medical staff in a retrospective, observational and descriptive study. Material and methods: All the scientific papers of the medical staff were quantified; the information was confirmed with the Google scholar web page for international journals and the Artemisia Index for national journals. Papers were classified by specialty, by original work or case presentation, by international or national publication, and by medical or surgical topic. Results: 295 papers were evaluated, 75.6% of them in national journals and 24.4% in international journals; 51.85% of surgical specialties and 48.14% of medical specialties; the frequencies by division were surgery › internal medicine › pediatrics › gynecology & obstetrics. Regarding distribution by specialty, the highest index was on general surgery papers with 18.64%, and internal medicine with 14.57%. 194 abstracts were excluded. Conclusions: We consider, without a reference point, that the number of scientific publications of the medical staff from Hospital Angeles Leon is acceptable, with possibilities of growing with the guidance and constructive criticism of manuscripts by the Publication Committee.
