ABSTRACT

Purpose: Disclose how the advantages of digitalization in the Imaging Department and its integration with it systems in a Health Care Institution may help to the daily medical practice based on the experience acquired in our Department in three years of work.

Material and method: Review the basic components of a digital department and its main functions, as starting point for discussing the impact on the work of specialists in radiology and ultrasound. Analysis of the influence it has had in the practitioner-patient relationship based on the observations and remarks from user clinical practitioners. Describe the support provided to education. Describe specific terminology.

Results and remarks: The way a Digital Department works has a direct effect on the workflow, making the management of patient and studies more efficient and accurate. This has a favorable impact on the practitioner-patient relationship and has been fundamental for management, teaching and education.
