ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the correlation degreee that exists between initial clinical manifestations and tomographic signs (Balthazar classification) in patients with diagnosis of acute pancreatitis.
Material and methods: Between September 2001 to October 2002, in the Hospital Adolfo Ruiz Cortinez, Veracruz, ver., 40 patiens were included with clinical diagnosis and tomographic of acute pancreatitis. The results were analized by descriptive analysis and Spearman coefficient correlation.
Results: 40 patients were evaluated of which 67.5 % were men and 32.5% women. The clinical and laboratory data were abdominal pain (100%), and vomiting (90%), elevated pancreatic enzymes (60%) and leucocytosis (55%). The tomographic diagnostic were edematous pancreatitis (52.5%), hemorrhagic pancreatitis (5%) and necrotic pancreatitis (5%). Complications described by CT were collections (22.5%), abscess (5%), pseudocyst (12.5%) and pleural effusion (17.5%). The index of Spearman was 0.6
Conclusion: The relationship tomographic- clinical for acute pancreatitis and their complications is good (rs = 0.6). The CT is an effective procedure for the diagnosis of patients with acute pancreatitis.
