ABSTRACT

Basal cell carcinoma, which accounts for approximately 60 to 70% of cutaneous malignancies, is the most common type of skin cancer, particularly in Caucasians and patients over 60. The aim of this article is to review its clinical and histological behavior so as to allow the most appropriate therapeutic approach to be taken with each patient. We present a clinical-surgical case involving a 71-year-old female patient diagnosed with ulcerated basal cell carcinoma of the nasolabial region. A surgical protocol was performed under general anesthesia. The columella and right-upper lip were resectioned with safety margins. Reconstruction of the upper lip and columella was subsequently performed using a unilateral nasolabial flap.
