ABSTRACT

Macro lenses are ideal for dental photography and are available with focal lengths of 60, 100 and 200 mm; the longer the focal length, the greater the enlargement, and also the cost. The purpose of this paper is to describe the clinical performance of a new, more economical Nikon macro lens with a focal length of 40 mm. This is a reliable, lightweight lens that meets most dental photography exposure needs and has the added advantage that it can also be used for portrait and landscape photography. However, it is limited in terms of its ability to provide extreme close-ups due to its short focal length.
