Hereditary ectodermal dysplasia. Report of 3 cases in the same family and literature review

ABSTRACT

Hereditary ectodermal dysplasia represents a group of disorders characterized by aplasia or dysplasia of ectodermal structures and tissues. Common manifestations mainly involve the hair, skin, nails, teeth and a glands. This pathology is a rare condition and is thought to diverse occur in approximately one case in 10,000 to 100,000 live births. The dentist has special importance in the diagnosis due to teeth abnormalities. The authors report 3 cases of hereditary ectodermal dysplasia in the same family, and also present a review of the literature.
