ABSTRACT

Mucocele of the vermiform appendix is a rare lesion, represents only 0.1 to 0.3% of all appendectomies performed. Appendiceal torsion is also considered a very uncommon clinical entity, as less than 27 cases have been reported in the literature. This paper presents a case of a 78 year old male with an acute torsion of a giant appendiceal mucocele mimicking an acute appendicitis successfully managed by laparoscopic appendectomy.
