ABSTRACT

Objectives. This study was designed lo evaluate the efficacy of the minimally-invasive single-flap technique in combination with Emdogain on the re-establishment of the periodontal parameters ovar periodontal infraosseous defects in 60 days. Materials and methods. Twelve periodontal defects with similar charocteristics were treated using the minimolly-invasive single-flap surgicol technique using thin surgical instruments and enomel matrix derivative (Emdogain®). The study was designed for periodontal infroosseous defects in posterior teeth with the purpose of reflect a flap with the leost trauma possible, ochieve stability and primary closure. The enamel motrix derivotive (Emdogain ®) was used only in 6 outof 1 2 infraosseous defects (Experimental group) placing it in the root surface and on the other 6 infraosseous defects a blood dat was formed over the surgical orea, and 4-0 Polytetrafluoroethylen (PTFE) sutures were placed, and removed after 7 days. The measurements ofthe periodontal parometers were evaluated at 21 and 60 days. Results. lt was found a reduction of the periodontal probing (PP) of 2.42‹ 0.55mm in 60 days (p.‹ 0.0001). The control group had a reduction ofthe PP of 2.0mm‹ 4.0mm, in 60 days (p.‹ 0.038), the experimental group had a reduction of the PP of 2.83 ‹ 0.2 1 mm in 60 days, being 13.65% more effective the experimental group. No changes overthe gingival margin recession were found, keeping an average of 0.58‹ l. 78mm during the study. The level of clinical attachment had a reduccion in the control group of 1.83 mm. and the experimental group 2.55 mm. (p‹ 0.428). Conclusions. The minimally-invosive single-flap surgicol technique is an effective procedure in the treatment of periodontal infraosseous defects not exceeding 5mm, without causing gingival recession. In combination with emdogain it is fovorable to treat periodontal infraosseous defects.
