ABSTRACT

Antecedents: Adult superficial fibromatosis are uncommon fibroblast proliferations. In Mexico, statistical data are unknown.
Objectives: to know the frequency.
Materials and methods: We reviewed the 2006-2009 database of biopsies of the dermatopathologic department. Cases with diagnosis of superficial fibromatosis were studied.
Results: A total of 6 785 biopsies from the dermatopathological department were analyzed. Only 6 (0.09%) were confirmed as superficial fibromatosis in adults; 5 (83%) were plantar fibromatosis, and 1 case (17%) was palmar fibromatosis; 4 (67%) were female patients and 2 (33%) were males. The average age was 53.2 years.
Conclusions: In Mexican population superficial fibromatosis are uncommon.
