Laparoscopic transgastric pancreatic necrosectomy. Report of a case and literature review

ABSTRACT

Pancreatic pseudocysts consist in fluid collections of enzymes that occur secondary to acute or chronic pancreatitis. Pancreatic necrosis is defined as areas of nonviable pancreatic parenchyma. If severe necrosis associated with pancreatic pseudocysts is expected to necrotic material is present within the cyst. Treatment of this condition involves debridement and drainage of necrotic material. Open surgery is the traditional treatment option, however, various approaches such as minimally invasive percutaneous drainage, endoscopy and laparoscopy have been described in an attempt to reduce mortality and morbidity of open surgery. The aim of this paper is to describe the experience in the use of transgastric laparoscopic approach for resolution of pancreatic necrosis.
