ABSTRACT

Corresponds to the rupture of the membranes prior to the onset of labor, with an incidence of approximately 8% of births, representing one of the main causes of prematurity, between 30-40%. (8, 12, 13, 14). It is also responsible for a significant increase in maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality, with a higher incidence in preterm births. (7, 11). Despite the use of broad-spectrum antimicrobial therapy, about 30% of patients with premature rupture of membranes they develop clinically chorioamnionitis, characterized by maternal fever, uterine tenderness, maternal and fetal tachycardia.
