ABSTRACT

Some considerations in relation to the evaluation of the complexity of endodontic treatment are argued in the present work. An evaluation form related to the complexity of this treatment was applied, which allowed us to classify all the patients who were attended by the Stomatologic Service of the Faculty of Stomatology in the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara, from September, 2012 to December, 2014. Patients with moderated difficulty predominated; dental destruction, periodontal disease and difficulties in interpreting radiographies were among the most relevant criteria related to the diagnosis. Complications associated with treatment, limited mouth opening and pathologic antecedents constituted the most significant data. The use of this tool constituted a valid instrument to homogenize the judgment of professionals considering the selection of cases who require root canal therapy, as well as, to plan consistently the possible risks during the procedure.
