ABSTRACT

Gallstone ileus is an uncommon disease, represent 1-3% of small bowel obstructions and less than 0.5% of the complications of cholelithiasis. Diagnosis is occasional, which implies a high risk of complications and mortality from 12 to 27%, pooled with the advanced age of the patients, clinical conditions and the high incidence of comorbidities. Surgical treatment is aimed at resolving the intestinal obstruction, biliary enteric fistula repair is controversial. We present two cases of gallstone ileus, which caused intestinal obstruction, with different clinical conditions and comorbidities, which were resolved satisfactorily.
