Social representation of health care providers on hearing impairment

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Primary Health Care has in the social representations of service providers to subject in disability, an important way for continuous improvement of the work of the latter.
Objective: To characterize the social representation of health care providers to hearing impaired persons, attending to Ruíz Aboy polyclinic in San Miguel del Padrón, in 2012.
Methods: A case study was performed based on the information provided by 33 service providers who served as key informants, selected by purposive sampling. The investigation was conducted by the techniques of free association of words and indepth interviews. The data processing was carried out by focusing on Qualitative Analysis Research Progress Taylor-Bogdan.
Results: The representation of providers consisted of experiential referents affective components, and informational inputs related to hearing impaired persons.
Conclusions: representation was characterized as conflict-avoidance by evasion exhibited providers in the conflict between compassion for the biological damage that these patients have, and the feelings of rejection caused by some of their behaviors.
