ABSTRACT

Biliary cysts are cystic dilations, 20 to 25% of them occur in the adult life. They appear toguether with clinical hepatic, biliary and pancreatic abnormalities. They are related to complications such as ductal strictures, stone formation and cholangitis. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography is considered the gold standard for diagnosis, nevertheless ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography) allows for diagnosis and therapeutic treatment at the same time. Biliary cysts management is determined by their classification, this may range from endoscopic sphincterotomy to surgical resection. We present a rare case of choledochocele treated succesfully by endoscopic sphincterotomy at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de la Península de Yucatán.
