ABSTRACT

A literature and documentary review of the main aspects and norms of postgraduate education in Cuba as well as the analysis of the influence of globalization over the development of postgraduate courses were made, with the objective of showing how the globalization influences the successful carrying out of the postgraduate courses in the Cuban medical universities. The various forms of professional upgrading and of academic formation in acquiring knowledge to reach better performance of health professionals were characterized as essential aspects for the improvement of human resources. The functions of the postgraduate course and where its objectives are aimed to and the use of its general didactic principles to be taken into account in this type of education were all explained in detail. It was concluded that postgraduate education is the path to development of professional upgrading and academic formation in acquiring necessary competencies to perform successfully in the assistance, teaching and research services.
