Recording and analysis of consent for organ donation, tissue and cells for transplantation in Veracruz City

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Organ transplantation has become one of the most efficient therapeutic strategies to save and improve the quality of life for people diagnosed with terminal disease. The demographic, economic, cultural and religious characteristics play an important role in the variation on the decision of people whether to become an organ and tissues donor or not.
Material and methods: 1,998 surveys of people who wanted to purchase a gift card from the CENATRA were analyzed. We evaluate the different sociodemographic characteristics that were associated with the desire to donate organs and tissues.
Results: The 70.9% of respondents were female and 29.1% male. The most common age group was between 31-60 years of age with 59%. People who were not living with a partner corresponded to 50.7%. Non-university population accounted for 47.4%. In the profession, it found that 10.7% performing work related health services. The urban population corresponded to a 98.3% majority. 80.9% were beneficiaries of the IMSS. It was found that most donors practice the Catholic religion represented a 70.3%. With regard to donate organs and tissues analyzed the heart decided to donate 96.7%, 96.5% liver, kidneys 97.6%, 95.2% lungs, pancreas 94.3%, 93.1% bone, skin 92.9%, 95.8% and 92.2% other corneas.
Conclusion: It was found that the most common demographic characteristics that influence the desire for donation include: sex, age, marital status, level of education, profession, type of population, social security, religion and type of organs and tissues.
