ABSTRACT
Achondroplasia is the most common skeletal dysplasia. Anesthetic management of this group of patients can be difficult due to the series of malformations they presents, specially those that alter the upper airway morphology and the patient’s ventilatory capacity. Some of this alterations can also be observed in the morbidly obese, thus when both conditions are associated the complexity in the anesthetic management of these patients increases. We present the case of a 41-year-old female diagnosed with achondroplasia and morbid obesity who was subjected to reduction mammoplasty and abdominoplasty at our institution. A summary of the anesthetic management of the patient is presented, as well as a brief review of the recent literature.
