ABSTRACT
About eight out of every thousand live births have a congenital heart disease. The pediatrician as a primary care physician should be able to detect these patients early; should be familiar with rapid diagnostic method to detect congenital heart disease. The diagnostic approach is performed by algorithms that guide towards a specific alteration, following two key elements: 1) Suspecting the presence of heart disease through early clinical signs and symptoms. 2) Determine whether these clinical data of a congenital heart defect. When performing an algorithm can perform a diagnostic approach, apply appropriate studies, establish early management, limit damage and timely referral to an institution where the diagnosis is confirmed and set appropriate and definitive treatment.
