Analysis of the parameters that define an idiopathic toe-walking pattern. A comparison with normal gait

ABSTRACT

Currently there are several literatures that analyses normal gait pattern and pathological gait pattern; however, the literature that focus on idiopathic toe-walking is limited, even though is it a common condition in children. Objective: The aim of this study is defining and analyzing the parameters that identify toe-walking. In addition, this study comes across with some differences and similarities between normal gait pattern and toe-walking pattern. Material and methods: This is an observational, analytic, longitudinal and prospective research. During this study 800 people with a positive diagnosis of toe-walking were analyzed and 320 participants with a normal gait pattern were also analyzed. Participants among 1 to 21 years of age were included in the research. The research took place at Praxis Pomarino and for the data collection a dynamometric platform was used. For the statistical analysis Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used. Results: The results were given dividing the groups into 3: A1 (2-6 years of age); A2 (7-10 years of age); and A3 (› 10 years of age), in addition, the analysis between right foot (PD) and left foot (PI) was also made. Conclusion: According to the results in the study, it is possible to find differences and similarities between the diffe­rent groups.
