Study of the costs of treatment of patients with hip fracture

ABSTRACT

Introduction: osteoporosis, defined as the poor formation of bone substance, is a serious worldwide health problem, being femoral neck fracture one of their most fearsome complications.
Objective: to investigate what has changed, at least substantially and what remains nowadays relative to this subject.
Material and methods: we carry out a review of this subject, whereas surgical and pharmacological treatment and other aspects of interest, compared to the study made 30 years ago. We consulted experts and the Medical Supplies Company, Commercializing Entity of Medical Equipment used in these interventions.
Results: osteoporosis and one of its more fearsome complications, which is hip fracture, result in important costs on all orders that have been increased as the worldwide life expectancy has grown.
Conclusions: medicals Equipment used at that time are obsoletes by now, and others have been introduced, being surgery and all related to preventive and curative aspects of the condition in the most vulnerable groups, really expensive. Our country proceeds with these treatments for free.
