ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the risk factors associated to endothelial dysfunction in Mexican patients in a Cardiometabolic Clinic.
Material and Method: An observational, longitudinal, prospective and analytical study, that included patients from the Cardiometabolic Clinic of the School of Nursing and Public Health of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo, Michoacán, Mexico. All of them underwent medical history, clinical chemistry, lipid profile, insulin, urine test, and were measured carotid intima-media and endothelial function by ultrasound method of flow-dependent vasodilation (FDV).
Results: 579 patients were included, of whom 174 (30%) had endothelial dysfunction; of these 73 were men (42%) and 101 women (58%); their mean age was 54.9±13.30 years. The differences found between patients with and without endothelial dysfunction were: percentage of men, weight, body mass index and C-HDL, increased in the first three and lower the latter, as well as higher rates of diabetes and hypertension in patients with endothelial dysfunction.
Conclusion: The study conducted suggests that male sex, hypoalphalipoproteinemia, obesity, diabetes and hypertension are associated with endothelial dysfunction.
