ABSTRACT

Background: Scrotal haematoma is one of the most common complications of inguinal hernia surgery, regardless of the technique employed, including the laparoscopic approach. Methods (case): We report a case of a patient who underwent a trans-abdominal pre-peritoneal laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair; he developed a scrotal haematoma as a surgical complication. A description of the first surgery, the symptoms presented by the patient, the diagnosis and the re-intervention are made. Discussion: The diagnostic approach and the procedures that must be done in order to recognize and avoid this complication are mentioned. Proposing as one of this procedures the reduction and resection or fixation of the hernia sac. Conclusions: Scrotal haematoma is a frequent complication that can be prevented by reducing and resecting the hernia sac or fixating it outside the scrotal sac.
