ABSTRACT

Introduction: Abnormal placenta accreta is the inclusion of some or all of the placenta, whose frequency has increased in the past 60 years and is characterized by high morbidity and maternal mortality.
Objective: Describe the characteristics of a case of placenta accreta.
Method: In a case of placenta accreta occurred in the Gynecobstetric Teaching Hospital of Guanabacoa in November 2013, its subsequent evolution is presented.
Results: 37 week-pregnant women has gestational diabetes and premature rupture of membrane. Cesarean is performed to diagnostic indication of fail induction. Arcuate segmental hysterotomy is made and the new born is extracted born alive. Her placenta is attached on the left horn that infiltrates the entire myometrium to the serosa, making the delivery impossible. So it was decided to perform total abdominal hysterectomy retaining ovaries. Diagnosis is confirmed with histopathologic examination. Good evolution of the patient and her newborn is observed.
Conclusion: Placenta accreta is an obstetric emergency possible to solve.
