ABSTRACT

Background: Avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial tuberosity is a rare injury that affects the growth cartilage of adolescents caused by the inability to withstand the stress to which it is submitted by the extensor apparatus, refers an incidence of 0.4% to 2.7% of the physis injuries, being reported various types of treatment.
Objetive: Reporting the functional results obtained through the open reduction and cannulated screws placement treated at the General Ignacio Zaragoza Regional Hospital, ISSSTE.
Material and Methods: It is a retrospective, transversal study, wich was conducted through a systematic review of patients with diagnosis of avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial tuberosity and theirs treatment with cannulated screw placement, at the General Ignacio Zaragoza Regional Hospital, ISSSTE. Within the period March 2007 to March 2015.
Results: The study universe consisted of a total of 18 patients, of whom 15 were male (83%) and 3 female (17%). Finding satisfactory results, by means of open reduction and cannulated screws placement compression.
Conclusion: open reduction and internal fixation with cannulated screws placement is a surgery indicated in the injury of anterior tuberosity of the tibia in adolescents presenting good functional results.
