ABSTRACT
There are currently a wide range of dental restoration materials available for use in aesthetic restorations. However, little is known of their clinical life.
Objective: To identify recent papers on metal-free aesthetic restorations that include clinical studies.
Methodology: A systematic search for relevant clinical research articles published between 2010 and 2015 was performed in the PubMed and SciELO databases. The search terms used were: Veneer crowns, metal-free dental restorations, metal-free crowns, aesthetic crowns, lithium disilicate crowns, types of ceramic.
Results: We studied 40 articles, 20 of which met the selection criteria for the review of the literature. All metal-free prosthetic restorations showed a very similar clinical performance at three years. Zirconia and lithium disilicate (CAD) restorations showed better clinical success.
Conclusion: The clinical success rate at three or more years of the metal-free restorations seen in this review of the literature ranges from 92.7 to 100%.
