Heart diseases: the leading cause of morbidity in a third-level hospital

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Heart diseases are a set of heart and blood vessels disorders. In the world every four seconds an acute myocardial infarction occurs and every five seconds a vascular brain event happens, and at least one out of three people dies because of any pathologies related to heart diseases. In Mexico 19% of women and men aged between 30 to 69 years old die due to heart diseases. There are more than 17 million of hypertensives, more than 14 millions of people with dyslipidemia, more than 6 million of diabetics, more than 35 million of overweight or obese adults, and more than 15 million with varying degrees of tobacco use. Objective: To identify the morbidity due to heart diseases in a third-level hospital. Methodology: Quantitative, observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, retrospective study. An analysis of clinical cases of patients was carried out within a six-month period in a third-level hospital of the State of Mexico. Results: Out of 1,093 patients admitted, the 25% of them had cardiovascular diseases, Secondly, there was the diabetes mellitus disease with 6.4%, and thirdly with 6.3% there is the cerebrovascular disease, which is a complication of arterial hypertension. Conclusions: Heart disease is the leading cause of morbidity in a third-level hospital.REFERENCES
