ABSTRACT

Background: The french technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy solves gallstones with excellent results. Although this does not include studies in Mexico that contrast with the American technique. Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of the French technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy with the American technique. Material and Methods: A randomized clinical trial comparing the French and American techniques of laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed. The trial included 50 patients in each group (n = 100). They were measured as efficacy parameters operative time, postoperative pain and hospital stay. To evaluate the safety we consider bleeding, bile duct injury and conversion. Significant differences (p ‹ 0.05) between both groups of patients were established. Results: The French technique showed less surgical time, pain, length of stay, bleeding and a lower tendency towards conversion. A single lesion of bile duct in the group of patients undergoing French cholecystectomy was presented. Conclusion: French technique represent an alternative of the cholecistectomy approache.
