ABSTRACT
Ventral and incisional hernias are among the main conditions that the surgeon must face in the day to day. The laparoscopic approach has revolutionized the surgical treatment because it generates less trauma and faster recovery, but its results are still controversial regarding relapse. We report the case of a patient with a recurrent ventral hernia which was reoperated by our service using a transfascial closure of the defect with nonabsorbable suture and placement of a polypropylene mesh coated with omega 3 fatty acids, using the intraperitoneal technique (intraperitoneal onlay mesh plus). Detailed analysis of the basic principles of hernia repair applied to new knowledge in the laparoscopic approach —as is the transfascial closure of the defect and proper placement of the mesh— increases the chances of success of the surgery and decreases the risk of recurrence. Conclusions: The redo laparoscopic ventral hernia surgery is a complex procedure and requires a comprehensive approach by the laparoscopic surgeon to ensure the success of the surgery.REFERENCES
