ABSTRACT

Melanoma is the cutaneous tumor with highest morbidity and mortality. The first reports date back to the V century BC but it was not until the nineteenth century when it is identified as a specific disease. From that point, the first descriptions of the disease and the ways of dissemination were described, along with the surgical treatments that guided the treatment of melanoma for decades.
