Benchmarking for nursing human resources management

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The human management based in scientific evidences is one of main objectives of health policy and system research.
Objectives: To identify best practices related to nursing human resources management.
Methods: A descriptive study was done during the period of September 2013- december 2014. A benchmarking methodology was applied. The research took place at the Cardiovascular Pediatric Center "William Soler". The benchmarker institution was the Cuban Ophthalmological Institute "Ramón Pando Ferrer". The universe of the study was constituted by managers, professional nurses and other functionaries linked to the management's process. The data collection was done using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Findings: The study of best practices at the benchmarker institution allowed to create a proposal of process to be apply at the Cardiovascular Pediatric Center "William Soler".
Conclusions: The final proposals improve the process of Cardiovascular Pediatric Center "William Soler" because they have incorporated the successful practices of the benchmarker institution. The study of process at the Cuban Ophthalmological Institute "Ramón Pando Ferrer" allows to visualizing some aspect to be improve in this institution.
