ABSTRACT

For a long period of time, human’s core idea was the adult. Children and youth were considered part of adults’ project. Childhood and youth as normality have been study objects. However, there are other forms as a product of institutional and social exclusion that have built specificity for these life forms that happen to go through different conditions than institutionalized groups. This investigation’s purpose is to present street situation social representations that children between 12 and 16 years have of themselves, of “normal” childhood and conflicts between these two aspects. As a result of this, there were used two investigation systems: photography and theatre. Representations about them recover some attributes that are socially considered criminal and negative. Regarding to “normal” childhood, they follow an accepted social representation, where school and family are the main constructive places. Finally, it can be pointed out the contradiction and the conflict that is presented, which makes particularly important to consider institutions and representations’ objectives and goals which they carry.
