Adjunctive behavior function in timing: a parametric analysis of spatial manipulation

ABSTRACT

Two of the most important theories of timing proclaim adjunctive behavior as the basic feature for timing development. There is empirical evidence for these theories, where experimental chamber size was modified in order to know adjunctive behavior role in timing. However, in all of them sizes were smaller than the standard one. In the present paper results from experimental size manipulation, with bigger sizes than the standard, that allowed to asses changes in adjunctive behavior structure and their effects on timing with a fixed interval schedule with pigeons are shown. Principal findings were that experimental size manipulation have effect over timing precision indeed but depends on presentation order of experimental chamber sizes . Results are discussed in relation with empirical predictions derived from the mentioned theories of timing. Finally some studies are proposed that may continue this sort of timing inquiry.
